Umm Gammar
Starting from the northern most vicinity of Hurghada, is the Umm Gamar Island. Its name means ''Mother of the Moon''. Lying on a north south axis it is 90 minutes north of Hurghada. The east side is a vertical wall that steeply plunges into a dark mystic blue space. The north and south sides both have small plateaus averaging in the 20 meter range. There is an unmanned light located on the north side of the island.
About the Dive
Located in the open seas, expect chopping conditions on the way but protected once anchored. If currents are present, it is usually around the southeast corner. The best diving at this site is on the south end of the reef. There are several caves in the reef filled with schools of colorful fish and soft coral. Similar to Shabbrur Umm Gamar, midway of the island the reef wall drops to a shelf at 12 meters then steeply down from 25 meters to 50+ meters.
