El Fanous West
On the west side of El Fanous is a narrow channel that goes through the reef into a lagoon at 9 meters. There is also an area of coral garden with average depths between 12-14 meters.
About the Dive
Boats can moor inside the channel in all weather conditions. Currents run northeast to southwest along the outer wall, it can be strong. When possible make a drift dive, dropping in north of the ergs and drift with the current back to the boat at the mooring. If you make a normal dive, start at the corner and follow the main reef northeast or go straight out away from the reef. There is a prominent coral formation about 20 meters, with the main erg another 30 meters further. There are another two large pinnacles situated south.

Near the pinnacles and reef look closely for Picasso fish, morays, octopus, squid painted triggerfish, butterfly fish, turtles and dolphin sightings are common, usually heading south in the afternoon
